“The team at SilkRoute really knows their business,” said Rob
Salter
Tesco Corporation is a United Kingdom based retailer that is the third largest global
provider of its kind in the world. Similar to Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target – Tesco
manages retail items ranging from electronics to home products to food to automotive
accessories. Its media and entertainment division alone eclipses most large retailers.
As it engages consumers of all lifestyles, demographics and preferences, Tesco is
challenged by the need to be present, responsive and intuitive to prospective customers
on-line, digital, virtual and in physical storefronts. As Entertainment Director
Rob Salter knows, SilkRoute brings unquestioned expertise that is industry-defining.
“The team at SilkRoute really knows their business,” said Rob Salter, Category Director
of Entertainment, Tesco Corporation, the world’s third-largest retailer. “As we
coordinate our physical and digital assets, embrace hard copy and virtual media,
the team at SilkRoute come to us with great ideas that always enhance and sometimes
challenge and improve our vision. We would recommend the team at SilkRoute to anyone,
but, to be honest, we’re hoping to keep them all to ourselves.”
"The Guys at Silkroute are the Real IT Experts." Said Rob Salter.
The team at Silkroute Global are true experts when it comes to retail software and global information systems-inventory management. They've practically invented the industry. If it was up to us here at Tesco, we'd keep them a big secret so we could have them all to ourselves; they've been instrumental to our overall success.

Teradata and SilkRoute Global Announce Demand Chain Management
Software-as-a-Service Offer
Retailers can optimize inventory levels while reducing out-of-stocks,
without the requirement of a large capital investment
WASHINGTON, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC), the world's
largest company solely focused on data warehousing and enterprise analytics, announced
today that the Teradata Demand Chain Management (DCM) solution for product demand
forecasting and replenishment is now available as a software-as-a service offer
through partner SilkRoute Global. This is the first Teradata solution to be available
under a software-as-a service model.
"By providing Teradata Demand Chain Management in a software-as-a-service model,
we are helping retailers with their biggest challenges in this economic environment,"
said Teradata Vice President for Retail Industry Solutions, Ed Dupee. "Many
retailers are searching for ways to preserve sales by reducing out-of-stocks while
also optimizing their inventory levels to match demand. These same retailers are
limited in their options due to capital expenditure cut backs and restrictions.
Our partnership with SilkRoute Global will help these retailers be more competitive
in this economic environment."
Under the agreement, retailers will contract with SilkRoute Global for the use of
the Teradata DCM solution running on aTeradata Active Data Warehouse. Teradata DCM
focuses on consumer demand at individual stores and uses point-of-sale data and
other information to create sales forecasts of each item, by store and by day. These
forecasts serve to pull inventory through the supply chain based on expected sales
across the store network. This is in contrast to the older supply line approach
that pushes products to the marketplace based on available inventory.
"Utilizing the software-as-a-service model is a great way for retailers and
their suppliers to reduce the typical solution deployment time and cost and to free
their resources to focus on core business activities," said Ron Lund, SilkRoute
Global chief executive officer.
